Frerin Son of Thrain

I've been making use of my calligraphy set a lot lately, but not in the way most people would. Instead of composing "beautiful" documents with my quill, I decided to use it to draw instead and boy howdy did I use it a lot. So, this is one of the things that I drew using my quill.

I figured that since Frerin is such an integral part in a lot of the fanfiction I have been planning, it wouldn't hurt if I tried to draw him. Obviously, this is how I think he would look like, seeing as to how he's never been visually represented before by any official (via books or movie) sources.

Unlike the lot of his family, I imagined him having dark eyes, which plays a huge part in one of my fanfictions I posted earlier. I also thought that he would be a mix between Thorin and Kili, but more towards the latter. Here's a picture I referred to in order to draw said dwarf: www.morphthing.com/showimage/2...

I understand that it doesn't look exactly like the reference picture either, but hey! I think I'm allowed to wing it here and there, right? As for the clothes, I'm sorry if I'm not very creative with that. I'm no expert in royal dwarf attire, so I had to make due with what I could find.

The materials I used for this particular piece are: Chinese calligraphy ink, a feathered quill, parchment paper, Sakura Micron Inking Pens, a mechanical pencil and a white-out pen.

Before you calligrapher-purest out there persecute me for using Chinese ink with a quill, let me say that I accidentally spilled more than half of my actual calligraphy ink all over my desk while working on another doodle. I didn't want to break open my new jar, and I had a big bottle of Chinese ink lying around, so I decided to use that! The properties of Chinese ink are very similar to watercolor, where you can manipulate the transparency levels with water. What is also cool about it is that when it dries, and say if it gets wet again, the ink will not melt away. It's permanent once it dries! So yeah, that's my defense.
